Team Valley Industrial Estate covers 750 acres at Gateshead in the North East. Under the shadow of the Angel of the North some 600+ businesses operate, carrying out manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, wholesale, commerce and retail. To combat rising crime and vandalism during the early nineties 2020 Vision were commissioned by ‘Valleywatch’ to design and implement a proactive CCTV system.

The challenge

To deliver a complete CCTV system on a busy working industrial estate, both within time and on budget and capable of delivering images of evidential quality.

The solution

2020 Vision provided a complete turnkey solution consisting of 32 Column mounted PTZ Cameras, linked to a 24 hour manned CCTV control room via a fibre optic transmission system delivering high quality ‘real time’ video images from across the estate.

The cameras are fitted with powerful zoom lenses capable of providing person recognition at a distance of 140 meters with detection at over 400meters. Variable speed positioning units and high-speed shuttering enable the CCTV Operators to track fast moving targets whilst retaining sharp images across the estate.

In August 2004 rapid advances in technology coupled with the need to increase capacity to accommodate a further 14 Camera’s from the neighbouring Watermark Business Park and Newburn Riverside estates, 2020Vision were commissioned to carry out a £150,000 revamp of the control room to launch ‘Valleywatch’ into the next decade. This included the introduction of full Digital Recording and storage of all video images as well as the ergonomic design of the console, lighting and display technologies to improve operator efficiency and minimise optical stress.

The benefits

Reduction in crime – 99 arrests in the first 12 months of operation, representing a 63% reduction in incidences of crime.

  • Considerable cost savings for tenants on site
  • Reduced fear of crime.
  • More pleasant working environment

Valley Watch general manager, Roger Brunning said:

“From the very beginning I was impressed with the professionalism shown by all 2020 Vision personnel. They listen to what the customer wants without trying to force their views, as well as offering alternatives available and arranging tests of suitable equipment.

“We made a good choice when awarding the initial contract to 2020 Vision and we have not had reason to be disappointed since, we would not allow any other company carry out CCTV related work in the control room or on our system.”

Newcastle-based Excelsior Academy is a new concept in secondary education.

2020 Vision Technology deployed AXIS 216FD Network Cameras in many of the academy’s shared areas. In the event of an incident, the academy’s staff can log on to the network to view the footage and get a clear view of what has taken place and who was responsible.
