NORTH Shields based security specialist 2020 Vision Systems has won the £250,000 contract to refurbish the entire Newcastle City Centre CCTV system.

2020 Vision has been chosen to update and replace existing cameras and cabling in the City and extend the system from 16 to 18 cameras.

The contract, which conforms to Northumbria Police Authority specification, will run to mid March and involve a team of eight qualified technicians using specialist equipment such as a Bronco lift to reach heights of 70 metres.

Peter Houlis, MD of 2020 Vision Systems said: “We are delighted to have won this prestigious contract and be recognised for providing quality CCTV and Access Control installations. This extension to the present city centre system will enable the police to have access to footage across a wider area, helping to keep the public safe in Newcastle City Centre.”

2020 Vision Systems, which also has a Carlisle office, designs and installs systems across the North East and is frequently asked to take its skills abroad. Recent contracts include managing the security systems at University Campuses such as Northumbria, Newcastle, Sunderland, Durham and Birmingham and a major installation project at the Newburn Riverside site.

MD Peter Houlis is a director of The Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board (SSAIB) and also sits on a CCTV advisory committee for the European Union. The company is also the UK’s only ‘Gold Quality’ supplier and installer in the UK for Ultrak which manufactures cameras, the pan and tilt heads that the cameras sit on, along with telemetry systems.
