North East surveillance specialist 2020 Vision Systems has won a new contract worth just short of £100,000 to strengthen the security at one of Scotland’s most visited conference centres.

Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC), which has held events attended by the likes of Princess Anne, Nelson Mandela and Al Gore, has awarded 2020 Vision the huge contract to upgrade its CCTV network following a competitive tender process.

2020 Vision, based in North Shields, was chosen as its cutting edge solution to upgrade and revamp the CCTV control room and recording equipment proved the most beneficial, cost effective and will produce little to no down time. Work is due to begin at the conference centre later this month.

2020 Vision will be tasked with replacing the existing control room and recording system as well as providing a full migration pack, which will allow the EICC to integrate fully digital technology in the future. The contract also includes relocating the control room to a different area of the extensive EICC site.

Peter Houlis, managing director of 2020 Vision, said: “After a rigorous tender process the EICC felt that our plans best suited their needs and would deliver on time and in budget.

“The EICC is planning to expand and our system will provide them with the opportunity to do so as and when without the need for re-wiring.”

The EICC was custom designed for conferences, conventions and exhibitions and has played host to a number of momentous events. Since opening its doors in 1995 the world class conference venue has welcomed over 700,000 delegates to over 2000 events.

Commenting on the contract award EICC Marketing Manager Sandy Pearson said: ‘We place a premium on the safety and security of our delegates, who frequently include heads of state, government ministers and global business leaders. 2020 Vision Technology stood out through investing the time required to understand our business needs.

“The resultant CCTV system will aid us with enhanced picture clarity and storage as well as being scalable and well supported. The new system will not only support our current needs but has also been chosen because it can support our development plans. In 2012 the EICC will deliver an additional 17,840 sq m of function space and will attract  95,000 delegates annually,”.

2020 Vision was established in the North East in 1992 and specialises in security systems such as CCTV, remote site monitoring, access control and concierge services. It has provided security in a diverse range of environments such as hospitals, casinos, universities, sports stadia, government offices and a seabird island.
